The Microwave Will Not Turn On or Start

If your microwave will not turn on, there are several solutions for this problem:

  • Your power cord may not be plugged in. Check and plug in the power cord if necessary.
  • You may be experiencing a power outage.
  • Power may not be flowing to the socket. Check if electricity is present at the outlet in question by using another small object that runs on electricity (e.g., hairdryer). If electricity is not present, consult a qualified electrician.
  • The fuse may have blown or the circuit breaker may be tripped. Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.

If your microwave display is on but will not start, there are several solutions for this problem:

  • The door may not be completely closed. Make sure to completely close it.
  • Check to see if packing material or other materials are stuck to the door seal.
  • Check for damage to the door. If there is damage, please schedule a service visit.
  • Press the CLEAR / OFF key twice and attempt to re-enter the cooking instructions.

Steam Accumulates on the Microwave Door and Warm Air Comes from the Vents

Steam sometimes condenses on the microwave’s cooler surfaces such as the door. This is normal and the microwave should be wiped dry with a soft cloth should this occur. During cooking, the food will give off steam and warm air. Most of the steam and warm air are removed from the microwave by the air, which circulates inside the microwave. However, some steam may condense on cooler surfaces such as the microwave door.

More Troubleshooting Topics

Power & Malfuction

The microwave causes interference with my TV.

Some radio and TV interference might occur when you use the microwave. This interference is similar to the interference caused by small appliances, such as mixers, vacuums, blow dryers, etc. It does not indicate a problem with the microwave.

Odors

The microwave has an odor and generates smoke when using the BAKE function.

Grease that has built up on the interior ceiling and walls of the microwave may begin to smoke if not cleaned. It is essential that your microwave is wiped regularly, particularly after cooking.

Microwavable Dishes & Turntable

What types of dishes can I safely use in a microwave?

The following types of dishes are microwave-safe:

  • Heat-resistant glass, glass ceramic, and earthenware
  • China
  • Microwave-safe plastics
  • Paper products

The following types of dishes are not microwave-safe:

  • Metal
  • Wood
  • Tightly covered cookware

Please refer to your owner's manual for a more comprehensive list of microwave-safe cookware. If you do not have an owner's manual, you can download it here.

When the microwave is operating, the turntable makes noise.

The roller ring and microwave are dirty and need to be cleaned. Wash the roller ring with mild soapy water. The microwave oven can also be wiped with mild soapy water. Make sure to dry before use.

The turntable in the microwave wobbles or stops turning.

Make sure the turntable is positioned correctly and placed properly on top of the roller ring. Food debris can also stick on the roller ring causing the tray to inconsistently turn so be sure to clean the ring as needed.
