What Types of Dishes Can I Safely Use in a Microwave?

The following types of dishes are microwave-safe:

  • Heat-resistant glass, glass ceramic, and earthenware
  • China
  • Microwave-safe plastics
  • Paper products

The following types of dishes are not microwave-safe:

  • Metal
  • Wood
  • Tightly covered cookware

Microwave Programs & Power Levels

Microwave programs include Beverage, Sensor Cook, Sensor Reheat, Auto Defrost, Melt Butter, Melt Chocolate, Soften Ice Cream, Soften Cream Cheese, Pizza and Popcorn.

There are 10 power levels available below you'll find suggested power levels for different types of food. As with any food preparation in the microwave, it is best to follow the microwave instructions that are printed on the food packaging. Please refer to your owner's manual for additional information. If you do not have an owner's manual, you can download it here.

  • Power Level 10 (100%) Boiling water, cooking ground meat, making candy, cooking fresh fruit & vegetables, cooking fish & poultry, preheating browning dish, rehearing beverages, cooking bacon slices.
  • Power Level 9 (90%) Reheating meat slices quickly, saute onions, celery and green peppers.
  • Power Level 8 (80%) All reheating and cooking scrambled eggs.
  • Power Level 7 (70%) Cooking breads, cereal products, cooking cheese dishes, cooking muffins, brownies and cupcakes and cooking whole poultry.
  • Power Level 6 (60%) Cooking Pasta
  • Powel Level 5 (50%) Cooking meat, custard, spare ribs, rib roast and sirloin roast.
  • Power Level 4 (40%) Cooking less tender cuts of meat and reheating frozen packaged foods.
  • Power Level 3 (30%) Melting chocolate, thawing meat, poultry & seafood, cooking small quantities of food, finish cooking casseroles, stews and some sauces.
  • Power Level 2 (20%) Softening butter and cream cheese.
  • Power Level 1 (10%) Softening ice cream and raise yeast dough.

How to Use Sensor Cook

The Sensor Cook allows you to cook many of your favourite foods without selecting cooking times and power levels. The microwave oven automatically determines the required cooking time for each food item. The best results for cooking by sensor, follow these tips:

  • Food cooked with the sensor system should start from normal storage temperature.
  • Turntable tray, ceramic tray and outside of container should be dry.
  • Foods should always be covered loosely with microwavable plastic wrap, wax paper or lid.
  • Foods should be cooked on a microwavable dinner plate.
  • Touch the INFO button for information, e.g. on cookware, rack position or the addition of liquid when cooking meat.
  • Note: Do not open the door during the sensing process, or the process will be cancelled.

Sensor Cook programs include Baked Potato, Sweet Potato, Fresh Vegetables, Frozen Vegetables, Ground Meat, Fish/Seafood, Brown Rice, White Rice and Frozen Entrées.

Using Sensor Reheat

Sensor Reheat mode allows you to reheat dinner plates or casseroles for your convenience.

The Sensor Reheat mode lets you reheat dinner plates or casseroles (8-12oz) for your cooking convenience.

Tips for using Sensor Reheat:

  • Food cooked with the sensor system should start from normal storage temperature.
  • Turntable tray, ceramic tray and outside of container should be dry.
  • Foods should always be covered loosely with microwavable plastic wrap, wax paper or lid.
  • Foods should be cooked on a microwavable dinner plate.
  • Note: Do not open the door during the sensing process, or the process will be cancelled.
