To clean the spray arms, unscrew the upper spray arm, and remove the lower spray arm. Rinse both arms under water to loosen debris and clean the arms. You should use a toothpick to remove any debris in the holes. After cleaning, reinstall the spray arms. View the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on cleaning the spray arms .

How to clean the interior of the dishwasher.

We recommend using FINISH® Dishwasher Cleaner once every 1-3 months. Cleaning frequency depends on how often you use your dishwasher and your water hardness.

FINISH® Dishwasher Cleaner works by safely and effectively breaking down and removing mineral build-up from the interior of your machine, including hard-to-reach parts like the spray arms. If you see white or grey residue on the inside of your dishwasher, it’s time to clean your dishwasher. Cleaning your dishwasher on a regular basis may extend the life of your dishwasher and improve its performance.

Directions:

1. Remove the sticker from top of bottle without removing the cap.

2. Make sure your dishwasher is empty.

3. Place the bottle upside down on the lower rack in a secure place, such as where you would place a small dish.

4. Run the dishwasher on the hottest and longest cycle.

How to clean the stains in the dishwasher.

Never use a steam cleaner to clean your dishwasher.

Stains on the interior of the dishwasher are generally due to (1) Water hardness (white mineral build-up) or (2) Silverware in contact with the tub (discolored stains).

1) For water hardness stains (white mineral buildup), use a dishwasher cleaner to remove these stains. It will break down and remove mineral build-up.

2) To prevent stains on the tub, ensure silverware does not come in contact with the tub during the wash cycle. Use a dishwasher cleaner to remove stains.

How to prevent rust-like spots on interior of dishwasher.

Rust-like spots are from silverware in contact with the tub. Ensure silverware does not come in contact with the tub during the wash cycle.

How to clean the door seal of the dishwasher.

Wipe door seal with a damp cloth. Dry with a soft cloth.

How to use softening salt.

Not all dishwasher models use softening salt so please refer to your owner’s manual to see if this applies to your dishwasher. Add softening salt regularly by following the instructions in your owner's manual. Softening salt (part # 00469559) and a jug for pouring softening salt (part # 00267651) can be purchased in the online Thermador Accessories Store > .

How often should I descale my dishwasher?

Descale the dishwasher if there are limescale deposits. We recommend descaling your dishwasher once a year.

How to descale the dishwasher.

Follow the instructions below:

1. Run the hottest, regular cycle without detergent or dishes.

2. After 30 minutes, open the dishwasher with caution and add the descaler to the bottom of the dishwasher.

3. Run the program again for thorough cleaning.

How to clean stainless steel surfaces.

Clean stainless steel areas by using mild, soapy water with a soft cloth. Wipe in the direction of the stainless steel grain when washing and drying. Rinse with water and wipe dry to avoid watermarks. Do not use cleaning agents that are abrasive or contain chlorine since both are corrosive to stainless steel. For added shine, apply stainless steel conditioner and wipe off excess with a soft cloth.

Warning: Stainless steel conditioners and cleaners can have negative effects on materials other than stainless steel. Do not apply stainless steel conditioners and cleaners to control labels, logos, or black stainless steel.

The Thermador Stainless Steel Conditioner (part # 00576697) is available for purchase in the online Thermador Accessories Store. View the Thermador YouTube Channel to learn how to clean stainless steel.

How to clean the non-stainless steel exterior of the dishwasher.

Wipe the front of the appliance with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive detergents or sponges with a rough surface.

Usage & Operation

How to reset the dishwasher.

Please refer to your owner's manual to learn how to reset your dishwasher.

The dishwasher beeps.

The dishwasher beeps when a dishwashing cycle has finished. This feature can be deactivated if desired. To deactivate this feature or adjust the volume, consult your owner's manual.

The dishwasher display does not light up.

There are several reasons for this:

  • The Power Switch may not be switched on. Push the Power Switch.
  • For models with controls on the top portion of the door: The display only illuminates when the door is opened and controls are visible.
  • For models with the controls on the face of the dishwasher: Some models have a display that only illuminates when the door is closed.

The desired cycle is unable to be selected.

The previous cycle has not finished. Refer to the "Operating the Dishwasher" section of your owner's manual for instructions.

The dishwasher is not filling with water.

There are several solutions to this problem:

  • The previous wash cycle was not completed before unloading your items. To complete the cycle, reset the dishwasher according to the instructions in your owner's manual
  • The water supply may be blocked. Check that the water supply valve (typically located under the kitchen sink) is open and ensure that the water supply line has no kinks or clogs. To ensure the water supply line has no kinks or clogs, shut off the supply, disconnect the hose, flush the line by passing two gallons of water through the line. Check and ensure the household water supply is not turned off.
  • Delay start is active. Cancel delay start or wait until delay is complete.

There is noise during the wash cycle.

The water circulation sound is normal. If you suspect items are banging into each other or into the spray arms, refer to your owner’s manual for optimal arrangement.

There is water at the bottom of the dishwasher.

A small amount of water around the filter is normal.

The water is leaking from the door.

Water leakage may be caused by the following:

  • The incorrect detergent was used. Only use dishwasher detergents - do not use dish detergents. If suds persist, add one tablespoon of vegetable oil to the bottom of the dishwasher and run the desired cycle.
  • Door seal could have pulled away. The door seal may have caught on dishes that extend beyond the sides of the dishwasher rack. Push the seal back into place (near the inside edge of the dishwasher).
  • Condensation vent is blocked. This occurs if flexible cutting boards or cookie sheets block the condensation vent (on the side of the dishwasher), causing the dishwasher to leak from the door instead of venting properly via the condensation vent. Remove anything that is blocking the condensation vent and load flexible boards or sheets on the top rack.
  • Dishwasher is improperly installed. The dishwasher “feet” must be leveled properly. If not, gaps at the top of the dishwasher door may occur. In this case, adjust the “feet” accordingly. Please also have the installation verified by qualified personnel. They should check the water supply, drainage, leveling, and plumbing.

The cycle time on my dishwasher adjusts in the middle of a wash cycle.

The dishwasher uses sensors to detect the amount of soil in the wash water and adjusts wash conditions based on this information to ensure a proper wash is achieved. The display changes accordingly during the cycle.

The dishwasher is running a long time.

The dishwasher runs for a longer time due to the following reasons:

  • The incoming water is not warm enough. If the incoming water is not hot enough, the wash cycle will extend to heat the water internally in the dishwasher’s heat pump. To reduce wash time, briefly run the hot water faucet at the sink closest to the dishwasher before starting the dishwasher.
  • Heavily soiled dishes can prolong the washing time. The sensors in the dishwasher extend the cycle time to wash off heavy food soils.
  • The rinse aid dispenser is empty. The dishwasher extends cycle time to compensate for lack of rinse aid by adding a longer final rinse. Add rinse aid to avoid this.
  • The dishwasher is connected to a cold water supply. The wash cycle extends to heat the water internally in the dishwasher’s heat pump. Connect the dishwasher to a hot water source to reduce run time.

The dishwasher won't drain.

There are several solutions to this problem:

  • The drain lines are blocked. Check the drain lines for blockages in the garbage disposal and air gap. After clearing the blockage, select the CANCEL/DRAIN Program.
  • Drain pump is blocked by debris. Empty the water from inside the dishwasher using a ladle or something similar. Consult your owner's manual to learn how to unblock the drain pump. In the future, scrape off large debris on the dishes before putting into the dishwasher.
  • The dishwasher’s filters may not be clean. Refer to your owner's manual to learn how to properly remove the filter. Rinse the filter and its components under lukewarm water. Gently use a scrub brush to remove particles. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on cleaning the filter .

Please note, the drain hose must have a “high loop” between 20” and 50” above the floor to pump properly. Consult the installation instructions for more details. If the drain extension is used, ensure the max length of the drain hose, including the hose leading to air gap, is no more than 150”.

The dishwasher contains a lot of odors.

Odors can occur in the dishwasher due to the following reasons:

  • This may be caused by infrequent usage. Run a pre-rinse program once in a while to help prevent odors. You can also use a dishwasher cleaner every 4-6 months to maintain your dishwasher and keep it clean.
  • There is food debris on the bottom of the dishwasher. Remove the filter and clean according to your owner’s manual. Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on cleaning the filter .
  • There are food particles near the door seal. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.
  • There is residual water at the bottom of the dishwasher. Ensure the unit has completely drained from the last cycle. Refer to your owner manuals’ to learn how to activate the drain.
  • The drain hose is obstructed. Have an authorized technician remove any obstructions from the drain hose. Ensure the drain hose high loop is between 20” and 50” above the ground.

If odor still persists, run the NORMAL/REGULAR cycle and after 10 minutes, open the door and place an 8 oz. cup of distilled vinegar solution on the top rack. Close the door to finish the cycle.

The filter is blocked.

If the filter is blocked, remove the filter from the bottom of the dishwasher. Please refer to your owner's manual to learn how to locate and remove the filter. Remove any debris from the filter and wash it under running water. Gently use a scrub to remove any particles that are still stuck on the filter. Dry and properly reinstall in the dishwasher.

Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on cleaning the filter .

How to aid rinse aid.

Follow the instructions below:

1. Open the rinse aid dispenser cover and add the liquid rinse aid to the dispenser until it is full.

2. Wipe off any excess rinse agent that spills outside the dispenser.

3. Set the amount of rinse aid the dishwasher should dispense during each cycle. Refer to your owner's manual to learn how to do this.

The dishwasher will indicate if the rinse aid amount is low by illuminating a light or text.

Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on adding rinse aid .

How many washes will the rinse aid dispenser handle?

A full dispenser will hold enough for about 30 washes.

Do I need to pre-rinse items before loading them in the dishwasher?

No. Just scrape food, bones and other heavy debris off the dishes and put dishes into the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents contain enzymes, which find food particles and break them down. If there is no food to cling to, the enzymes can damage your dishware resulting in etched or cloudy glasses and dishes over time. Pre-rinsing dishes under running water also wastes a large amount of water per year.

What items should not be washed in the dishwasher?

The following should not be washed in the dishwasher: acrylic, bone-handled utensils, iron, non-dishware items, pewter, brass, bronze, tin and wood. Anything that is not marked "dishwasher proof" or "dishwasher safe" should not be washed in the dishwasher.

How to load a dishwasher.

Do not pre-rinse: Just scrape food, bones, and other heavy debris off the dishes and place the dishes into the dishwasher. Dishwasher detergents contain enzymes, which find food particles, digest them and wash them away. If there is no food to cling to, the enzymes could damage your dishware resulting in etched or cloudy glasses and dishes over time.

Silverware: Knives should be placed in the cutlery basket with the blade facing downwards for safety reasons.

Forks and spoons can be put into the cutlery basket with the top of the utensil facing up or down - mix it up so the spoons and forks don’t nest into each other which could result in less efficient cleaning.

Dishes: On the left side of the dishwasher, load dishes so they face inwards towards the center. On the right side of the dishwasher, load dishes so they face inwards towards the center.

Bowls: Place bowls on their side for maximum exposure to water flow. Do not place bowls facing completely downwards as this limits their exposure to water flow.

Large pans & platters: Place these items along the outer sides of the lower rack.

Stemware & cups: Load these on an angle to limit the amount of standing water after the wash cycle is complete. Loading on an angle allows water to slide off the cups.

Plastics: Plastic items can be placed on the upper or lower rack because Thermador dishwashers do not contain a heating element at the bottom of the dishwasher.

Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on loading a dishwasher .

What is the largest diameter plate or pan that can fit in the upper lower racks?

The upper rack can hold a 10" plate and the lower rack can hold a 12" plate. A 24" cookie sheet will fit in the lower rack when the upper rack is removed.

How to wash large items.

For items up to 22"" tall, remove the upper dishwasher rack. Then, install the Large Item Spray Head on the back of the dishwasher wall. Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to watch a tutorial on installing the Large Item Spray Head .

The Large Item Spray Head can be purchased in the online Thermador Accessories Store > . Refer to your owner's manual to see which Large Item Spray Head your dishwasher needs.

The utensils are not clean.

Be sure to avoid nesting your utensils, which will prevent them from being properly cleaned.

There are streaks on the glassware or dishes.

Reduce the amount of rinse aid. Please refer to your owner’s manual to learn how to add rinse aid.

The dishwasher does not wash thoroughly.

Please check the following to ensure your dishwasher is washing effectively:

  • Spray arm movement may be obstructed – manually spin each spray arm to ensure the spray arm is not blocked. It should rotate freely.
  • Spray arm nozzles are clogged – remove the spray arms and clean according to your owner's manual. Also view our Ultimate Product Performance Videos to learn how to clean a spray arm .
  • Improper use of detergents – increase or decrease the amount of detergent depending on water hardness and food debris. Please refer to the your owner's manual for more information.
  • Filters could be clogged – clean the dishwasher filter according to your owner's manual. Also view our Ultimate Product Performance Videos to learn how to clean the filter .
  • Dishes are nested or loaded too close together – Rearrange your dishware so the water from the spray arms can reach all items in the dishwasher. Refer to your owner's manual to learn how to properly load your dishwasher. Also, visit the Thermador YouTube Channel Videos to learn how to load a dishwasher .
  • Wash cycle is unsuitable for the level of food debris – select the correct wash cycle for your dish load. Refer to your owner's manual to learn how to select the right cycle.

There are water spots or stains on the silverware.

There are two primary reasons – hard water and etching. Wash the glass in a bowl of vinegar. If the cloudiness disappears, the cloudiness is caused by hard water. If the cloudiness does not disappear, it is caused by etching.

If it is caused by hard water, adjust the amount of detergent used in the dishwasher. The amount may vary depending on the level of water hardness. You may need to increase the amount of rinse aid dispensed during the washing cycle. Please refer to your owner's manual to learn how to adjust the rinse aid setting. For some models, a softening salt can be used. Please refer to your owner's manual to learn if your dishwasher can use softening salt.

If the cloudiness is caused by etching, it is permanent. You can prevent etching by not pre-rinsing the dishes, use a light wash cycle for glasses and use the correct amount of detergent (not more than needed).

There is white coating on the utensils or inside the appliance.

There are several solutions to this problem:

  • Make sure your water softening system has been set correctly according to your owner's manual. If required, refill with softening salt. Check if the salt compartment cap is closed properly. Not every dishwasher model uses softening salt so please refer to your owner’s manual to see if this applies to your dishwasher. Softening salt (part # 00469559) can be purchased in the online Thermador Accessories Store .
  • The water softening system setting is incorrect and calcification or detergent substances are deposited. If the salt compartment cap is not closed properly, there can be a coating of salt in the machine. Make sure that the salt compartment is closed properly.

There is limescale build-up on the dishwasher.

Depending on the hardness of the water in your area, limescale can occur. To remove limescale, use a dishwasher descaler. This will also prevent damage to the heating system.

What is condensation drying?

All Thermador dishwashers use the condensation drying process to dry items in the dishwasher. Condensation drying does not utilize a heating element at the bottom of a dishwasher. Instead, it involves a number of dishwashing elements that result in an energy efficient, high-quality drying process:

  • The final rinse uses water that has been heated to a very high temperature.
  • This makes the dishware very hot when the rinse cycle ends.
  • The stainless steel tub of the dishwasher cools faster than the dishware because stainless steel typically cools faster than dishware materials (such as glass and porcelain).
  • Moist air is released from the hot dishware when this moist air comes into contact with the cooler stainless steel tub and turns into water droplets (condensation). These water droplets trickle down to the bottom of the dishwasher and are drained in the next wash.
  • Dishware and cups become dry during this condensation process. Plastics tend to have more difficulty drying because plastic does not heat up to a high temperature during the final rinse like glass/porcelain does.

The use of rinse agents, such as Jet Dry®, aids the condensation drying process by reducing the surface tension of water, thus encouraging water to run off dishware effortlessly. We have extensive experience with Jet Dry® and Jet Dry® Turbo Dry® and highly recommend either product to help create an optimal drying experience that reduces the chance of spots and other leftover residue. Approximately 3.5 drops of rinse agent is dispensed during each wash cycle. Use Jet Dry® for your regular drying needs. Use Turbo Dry® if you are drying a lot of plastic in the dishwasher or if you are already using a detergent with a rinse aid included in it and it’s still not drying adequately.

The dishwasher dries poorly.

There are several solutions to this problem:

  • The rinse aid setting needs to be adjusted up. Please refer to your owner's manual to learn how to adjust the rinse aid setting.
  • A cycle without drying was selected. Make sure to select a cycle with drying.
  • Dishes are not arranged properly. Make sure to arrange your dishes in a sloping position. Refer to your owner's manual to learn how to properly arrange your dishes.
  • The detergent used has a poor drying performance. Use a different detergent with better drying performance. You can also use rinse aid to increase the drying performance.
  • Select models have Extra Dry which can be used to increase drying performance. Instructions for how to activate this are in your owner's manual. This option adds extra heat to the final rinse and will enhance drying results.

It takes a longer time to dry plastics.

This is normal. Plastics will always take a longer time to dry.

Accessories

Refer to your owner’s manual. If you do not have an owner's manual, you can download it here > .

What detergents do we recommend?

Visit the Thermador YouTube Channel to learn which detergent to use .

  • Premium tabs such as Quantum® and Powerball® have an edge in performance over powder.
  • Powders are economical to use and the amount used can be adjusted according to the load size, water hardness, and/or the cycle selected.
  • Additives such as PowerUp® Boost help combat hard water buildup.
  • Additives such as Jet Dry® and Turbo Dry® aid with drying large amounts of plastic items.

What is the difference between liquid, gel, and powder detergents?

Liquid or gel detergents only contain one type of cleaning agent. Powder and mono-dose products typically contain both types of cleaning agents (one for bleaching and one for cleaning food off dishware). Mono-dose products are also concentrated forms of powder and gel.

Information on phosphate-free detergents.

In 2010, detergent manufacturers removed phosphates from all of their dishwashing products in response to state laws banning phosphate-containing detergents. Many consumers are not aware of this detergent change and sometimes notice a white film on their dishware after using their dishwasher. Here are some tips for optimizing the effectiveness of your phosphate-free detergent:

We recommend powder, tablets, or tabs. Tabs generally perform slightly better than powder formulations. However, powder formulations offer the flexibility to change the quantity used in the dishwasher. For example, one may add more or less powder to the dishwasher depending on load size, water hardness, and/or the cycle selected.

Using rinse aid helps water slide off dishware effectively in the final rinse and reduces the likelihood of spotting or streaking. If your detergent tablet already has rinse aid in it, it may still be helpful to add rinse aid to your dishwasher’s rinse aid dispenser. For persistent spotting on your dishware, increase the amount of rinse aid that your dishwasher dispenses. For streaks, decrease the amount. Please refer to your owner's manual to learn how to do this.

Here are some tips for washing dishes in hard water:

  • If possible, use a household water softener to soften the water used in your home.
  • Purchase a dishwasher that holds water softener, such as our Thermador Quartz, Sapphire, or Star Sapphire dishwashers.
  • Utilize a dishwashing additive (such as FINISH® PowerUp® Boost) that cleans hard water film and spots. These additives are usually used in addition to the detergent.

What is rinse aid?

The use of rinse agents, such as Jet Dry®, aids the condensation drying process by reducing the surface tension of water, thus encouraging water to run off dishware effortlessly. We have extensive experience with Jet Dry® and Turbo Dry® and highly recommend either product to help create an optimal drying experience that reduces the chance of spots and other residue.

A very small amount of rinse agent is dispensed during each wash cycle (approximately 3.5 drops).

Use Jet Dry® for your regular drying needs. Use Turbo Dry® if you are drying a lot of plastic in the dishwasher or if you are already using a detergent with a rinse aid included in it and it’s still not drying adequately.

It is completely ok to add Turbo Dry® in the rinse agent dispenser if Jet Dry® is still in there. It is safe to mix these two. There is no need to empty out the dispenser before adding another rinse agent.

App requires iOS version 8 or higher and Android version requires 4.1 or higher. To update the Apple operating system, go to SETTINGS > GENERAL > SOFTWARE UPDATE. For Androids, go to SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE/TABLE > SYSTEM UPDATES.

The Home Connect app cannot be found in the App Store.

Check the country settings of your tablet/smartphone before searching for the app. Depending on your country, the app may or may not be available.

Downloading the app takes a very long time or stops part way through.

Due to its size, the app should only be loaded via Wi-Fi (not via UMTS, LTE).

Given the large volume of data, we recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to avoid additional costs.

Installation of Home Connect app from the App Store with UMTS/LTE

Due to the size of the app the program should be loaded via Wi-Fi. Switch on Wi-Fi and connect smartphone/tablet with Wi-Fi. Do not start installation before in order to save UMTS/LTE data volume.

The Home Connect app does not load with UMTS, LTE, etc.

Due to its size, the app should only be loaded via Wi-Fi (not via UMTS, LTE). Switch on Wi-Fi and connect smartphone/tablet with Wi-Fi. Then, download and install the app.

The Wi-Fi signal is not detected by the appliance.

A Wi-Fi router must be available. Router must be suitable for WPA / WPA2 encryption and must transmit at 2.4 GHz (Home Connect system is not compatible with 5 GHz). No restrictions should be set on the router (ports, MAC address, etc.).

The appliance is not connecting to the router.

This may happen if there is no Wi-Fi reception on an appliance or if the router has no Wi-Fi function. If the router has the Wi-Fi function, switch on the Wi-Fi on the appliance via menu control and on the router. If the range is insufficient, use a Wi-Fi repeater or Powerline adapter with the Wi-Fi function to amplify the signal.

The appliance is not connecting to the router through the WPS function.

The WPS function on router may be disabled or the WPS button (automatic login) is not available. Check the operating instructions of the router to find out whether WPS is supported and if so, how to activate it. If WPS is not supported by the router, use the manual connection mode in the Home Connect menu.

The appliance cannot connect with the Wi-Fi.

Make sure to switch on the Wi-Fi on the appliance using the menu and on the router. Boost the Wi-Fi signal with a Wi-Fi repeater or use Power Line interface (dLAN) with the Wi-Fi function.

The Home Connect app cannot establish a connection to the appliance.

There are several solutions for this problem.

• Wi-Fi has been switched off on the router. If so, turn the Wi-Fi on.

• The Wi-Fi password has been changed on the router and not on the appliance. Make sure to enter the correct password.

• A new router has been installed. Switch on the Wi-Fi on the router and connect the appliance with the router again.

A device cannot connect with the appliance even though other devices are already connected to the appliance.

A maximum of 8 smartphones/tablets can be connected with the appliance via Wi-Fi in the home. Check whether 8 smartphones/tablets are already connected via Wi-Fi in the home.
