Thermador Announces 2013-2014 Kitchen Design Challenge

The luxury appliance brand elevates its successful design contest as the most inspiring Thermador kitchens vie for $100,000 in prizes

IRVINE, Calif. (March 18, 2013) — After last year’s highly successful Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge that recognized the most inspiring luxury Thermador kitchens in the country, the best professional kitchen designers in the business have more reason than ever to create the ultimate dream kitchen as the ongoing design contest expands in 2013.

Thermador ( announces its 2013-2014 Kitchen Design Challenge, where members of the professional kitchen design community, who design a Thermador kitchen through Spring 2014, will have a chance to win $100,000 in prize money and an expense-paid trip to Southern California to the Thermador Experience & Design Center. At their disposal this year will be the vast array of new products and innovations Thermador launched into the luxury kitchen appliance market in 2012 as the contest grows in 2013 to reward 16 regional winners — up from eight a year ago.

The 2013-2014 Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge gives professional kitchen designers, architects, builders, remodelers and kitchen dealers the chance to put nearly 100 years of Thermador design and product innovation excellence to work for their clients — and be rewarded for it. And in 2013, that includes an impressive lineup of recently released Thermador products ranging from the Pro Grand® Steam Range, the 48-inch Ultimate Culinary Center™ featuring seven distinct cooking options; the Freedom™ Induction Cooktop, the industry’s first 36-inch full-surface induction appliance; and The Thermador Freedom® Collection portfolio of fresh food, freezer and wine refrigeration columns.

“The Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge is coming off an overwhelming nationwide response from kitchen design professionals a year ago and now we’ve expanded the number of winners to better recognize the accomplishments of the country’s brightest kitchen designers,” said Zach Elkin, director, brand marketing for Thermador. “2013 is a big year for kitchen design, and thus we are focused on rewarding the designer through the Kitchen Design Challenge and other industry-focused initiatives that continue to make Thermador the centerpiece of today’s culinary-focused, luxury kitchen.”

Enhancements to the Thermador 2013-2014 Kitchen Design Challenge include expanding the field of finalists from eight to 16, and opening up the contest to include design firms rather than only individual designers, as in years past. The contest will proceed as follows:

The 16 regional winners will consist of two from each of the contest’s six regions and four from any region for best use of built-in refrigeration

Each of the 16 will receive a $2,500 cash prize and an expense-paid trip for two to Southern California and an exclusive award gala hosted by Thermador at the company’s new Experience & Design Center

Five national winners will be selected: a winner and a runner-up from both the contest’s Modern and Traditional design categories, as well as an additional national winner for best use of refrigeration

The winners will split a grand prize package of $60,000 in prize money

Entries may only consist of kitchens featuring Thermador appliances and be kitchens completed in 2012 or 2013

The contest has no entry fee. Participants are encouraged to visit to read the official rules and enter. Entry forms may also be downloaded from the Thermador website ( or obtained from local Thermador dealers.

The contest is open today through March 1, 2014. The winners will be announced June 30, 2014, with the awards event taking place in fall 2014.
