Thermador Announces National Grand Prize Winners of its Third Kitchen Design Challenge

IRVINE, Calif. (August 31, 2017) – After much deliberation over the many exceptional entries into the thirdThermador Kitchen Design Challenge , the iconic American luxury home appliance brand, Thermador, has unveiled the national grand prize winners: Marc Thee (Marc-Michaels Interior Design) for the Contemporary/Modern design category, Constance Riik (CSR Interiors Inc.) for the Traditional/Transitional design category and Samuel Furr (Samuel Furr Architects) for Best Use of Freedom Refrigeration. Three runner-up winners were also named for the respective categories: Ilivette Hidalgo-Nilsson (Terracotta Design Build), Susan Jurenko (Central Kitchen & Bath) and Tammy Coulter (Tammy Coulter Design). The awards were announced during a celebration event in Southern California on August 30 that was attended by all 32 of the regional finalists, who were announced earlier this summer.

“The winners of the Thermador Kitchen Design Challenge are above and beyond some of the most exceptional kitchen design professionals in the industry,” said Beatriz Sandoval, Director of Brand Marketing for Thermador. “Their stunning kitchens beautifully highlight the groundbreaking design and innovation of Thermador luxury home appliances, and boldly demonstrate the customized aesthetic that is increasingly prevalent in the American luxury home.”

The immensely talented national grand prize winners, in addition to three national first prize winners, were selected from a group of 32 regional finalists, who designed extraordinary and uniquely personalized kitchen designs for their clients. Each of the finalists received an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Southern California to attend the exclusive celebratory gala, received cash prizes, and competed for an additional $3,500 cash prize for the Designer’s Choice category during the gala. The Designer’s Choice winners, chosen by their peers, went to Emily Clark (Clark & Co Homes) and Ilivette Hidalgo-Nilsson (Terracotta Design Build). In its entirety, Thermador awarded over $110,000 in cash prizes to the winners of the prestigious competition, the largest sum in the contest’s history.

The three national grand prize winners were selected in the following categories: Best Contemporary/Modern Thermador kitchen design, Best Traditional/Transitional Thermador kitchen design, and Best Use of Thermador Refrigeration in a kitchen design.
